Theo Ferreira’s life has been a fascinating mix of high drama, low comedy, gut-wrenching excitement and equally gripping fear, battles with authorities and narrow escapes from death. Stringing it all together has been his self-confessed obsession with great white sharks.

When a large wave dumped an enormous shark onto the rocks less than three metres away from eleven-year-old Theo Ferreira, he was terrified. Fascinated by this thrashing monster from the deep, Theo’s obsession with sharks was triggered. Initially intent killing sharks, Theo earned a reputation as a ruthless and successful shark hunter, and slaughtered many Great Whites. But after an encounter with a formidable shark, Theo converted from a hunter to a dedicated marine conservationist. No longer believing them to be killing machines, he ceased his attempts to destroy them and began to turn his energies into preserving these magnificent creatures.

He is dedicated to educating people about the importance of sharks to our oceans at large. His book, Shark Man, is testament to his unwavering commitment to this end.
